David Mayer de Rothschild (born 1978) is a British adventurer, ecologist, and environmentalist. He is the youngest of three children of Sir Evelyn de Rothschild and Victoria Lou Schott. He is a member of the prominent Rothschild family, a banking dynasty with roots stretching back to the 18th century.
Rothschild is known for his environmental advocacy and daring expeditions aimed at raising awareness about pressing ecological issues. He founded Adventure Ecology, an organization focused on using adventure to highlight environmental concerns. One of his most notable projects was the Plastiki Expedition in 2010.
The Plastiki Expedition involved building a catamaran made from recycled plastic bottles and sailing it across the Pacific Ocean. The journey, which started in San Francisco and ended in Sydney, was intended to demonstrate the potential for reusing waste and to draw attention to the problem of plastic pollution in the oceans. The Plastiki became a symbol of sustainable innovation and raised significant awareness of ocean plastic.
Beyond the Plastiki, Rothschild has been involved in various other environmental initiatives. He has traveled extensively, documenting the impacts of climate change and promoting sustainable solutions. He is a strong advocate for environmental conservation and inspires others to take action to protect the planet.
David de Rothschild's efforts have earned him recognition as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and as a National Geographic Emerging Explorer. He continues to be a prominent voice in the environmental movement.
